Parent Update- May 31, 2019

Dear Families,

As we enter the final month of the school year, we would like to thank you for your support and feedback over this year.  We appreciate the time that you take to complete surveys, attend meetings, events and keeping up with school news.

As you will see, the month of June is a very busy one. We have done our best to make sure everything is reflected in the calendar that is being shared with you, but anticipating weather, and perhaps continued issues with smoke from up north, we may have to make adjustments as the month goes on.  We ask that for this last month, you pay particular information to the calendar and any forthcoming news.

Current News and Updates

  • We appreciate your feedback and support regarding the news that Elm Street School’s main doors would be locked for much of the day. As you may have noticed, the bell has not been installed. We appreciate your patience and we hope to have the doorbell installed soon; perhaps even later today.

  • We also appreciate families working with us on our recent pickup and drop off times:

Drop Off: 8:10 a.m - 8:25 a.m.

Pickup- 2:20 p.m - 2:50 p.m.

Please know that we understand that there is a need for appointments and early pickups from time to time; please ring the bell (or knock)  to come into the school during those times.

Planned changes for the 2019/2020 school year

  • Elm Street has a tentative plan to dismiss students at 2:30 p.m., rather than 2:45 p.m. This change allows students to receive the standard of quality instructional time that is required under the Alberta Guide to Education.

Morning supervision/drop off, under this tentative plan for the new year will begin at 8:05 a.m., rather than 8:15 a.m, as it is now.

  • Before/After school Care- We are in the process of getting working with an agency to complete paperwork and licensing for before and after school care at Elm Street School Next year. Please watch for that announcement, which we hope to be able to bring to you soon. On that same note, we want to be sure that we are seeking to secure programming to take the place of the YMCA’s programming in the AM, and to provide a plan “b” for parents regarding after school care, if a student was unable to register with NFNA. Elm Street School appreciates the service that the North Flats Neighborhood Association provides to families in our community and in no way are we seeking to take away from their work, nor compete.

As always, we welcome your questions and concerns regarding any of these changes.
