About Elm Street School: A Place of Possibilities

Dating back to 1911, Elm Street School continues to be a Place of Possibilities. At Elm Street School, we prioritize small classes sizes and a low teacher-to-student ratio. Our dedicated staff goes above and beyond each day to create exciting and meaningful learning experiences for all students. We look forward to inspiring and nurturing the potential of all our students.

Academic Supports and Services

Students from Grades 3-6 at Elm Street enjoy the use of 1:1 Chromebooks to support their learning journey. We believe in providing the necessary tools and technology for our students to thrive academically.

In addition, Elm Street School is proud to have the support of the River Flats community, as well as various community groups and organizations. Through these collaborations, we are able to offer a free breakfast and snack program to ensure that every student starts their day with the fuel they need to succeed. We are also a recipient of the Alberta School Nutrition Program and the Medicine Hat Root Cellar, which provides a free and balanced lunch to each child every day.

After School Activities

We believe that learning extends beyond the classroom, which is why Elm Street offers a variety of after-school clubs and activities for students to join. With the support of Ever Active Schools, a non-profit organization that promotes physical and mental-health wellness, Elm Street offers basketball, volleyball, floor hockey, games groups, and more.

We have recently been accepted as a Toronto Blue Jays Affiliate School for 2023 along with the support of Ever Active Schools. Our students are very excited to have this awesome opportunity to learn and develop their baseball skills.

Our Garden Club has quickly become one of the most popular after-school clubs, with almost a third of Elm students participating. The Garden Team takes pride in growing basil and providing it to a local business, Hell's Basement, for their signature bruschetta. Through plant sales and pop-up stands, the Garden Club has also raised funds for the school.

Outdoor Community Classroom

Elm Street School along with the assistance of our community partners, has completed some of the work on our outdoor classroom. The outdoor classroom features a covered gazebo, with seating areas, and soon to be garden boxes, providing students with a unique and enriching learning environment.
