Wrestling Club
During the winter months, Elm Street School offers Wrestling Club for our students. A teacher along with volunteer coaches from the Hawks Wrestling Team run a wrestling club for our students. The volunteer coaches are high school students who want to share their love of wrestling with other students.
At wrestling club, students at Elm Street School learn the fundamentals of how to wrestle. They learn how to safely take down their opponent and how to defend against their opponents moves. Wrestling is a dynamic sport that involves all the muscles of the body. It is a sport that teaches control; of movement and, of temper. The benefits to students are better physical fitness, a new community of peers, learning to control their emotions and increased self-esteem as they learn and master new skills. Wrestling is taught as a collaborative sport, however, in competition it is just you and you opponent on the mat. It is a great blend of team and individual. Elm Street Students have the opportunity to attend a local competition against other students at the end of the season. It is great fun and the kids always have a good time showing off the skills they have learned. Wrestling is a sport that can be continued all through middle and high school.
