Adam Koch Honoured with MHPSD Friends of Education Award

Medicine Hat Public School Division is proud to recognize Adam Koch as a recipient of the 2025-2026 Friends of Education Award.

The Friends of Education Award celebrates community members who make a meaningful difference in the lives of students through their support of public education. Adam's commitment to student learning, community engagement, and authentic educational experiences has positively impacted students at Dr. Ken Sauer Fine Arts School, George Davison School, and Dr. Roy Wilson Learning Centre.

As a chef, entrepreneur, and proud Medicine Hat community member, Adam is passionate about giving back to his hometown. Through partnerships with local schools, he has generously shared his time, expertise, and enthusiasm to help students connect classroom learning to real-world experiences.

At George Davison School and Dr. Roy Wilson Learning Centre, Adam has supported a multidisciplinary project focused on food security and community building. Through hands-on learning experiences, students developed practical kitchen skills while exploring the important role food plays in bringing people together. His work has also strengthened partnerships with organizations such as The Root Cellar and Community Food Connections, creating additional opportunities for students to learn, collaborate, and contribute to their community.

For the past two years, Adam has worked alongside Grade 5 and 6 students at Dr. Ken Sauer Fine Arts School on an innovative culinary project that combines writing, visual design, public speaking, presentation skills, and entrepreneurial thinking. Students were challenged to create an original dessert while considering the same criteria used in the restaurant industry. Adam and his sister and business partner, Jen Attfield, then brought the project to life by featuring a student designed dessert on their restaurant menu.

This unique experience gave students the opportunity to see their creativity, ideas, and hard work move beyond the classroom and become part of the local community.

Throughout his involvement with schools, Adam has never sought recognition or compensation. Whether teaching practical life skills, inspiring future chefs, or helping students build confidence through authentic learning experiences, he has consistently demonstrated a strong commitment to supporting young people.
